Underwater Exhibition
Art Point: Methexis Beach Time: all days, underwater music from 5 – 7 pm (4., 7.,11., 14. and 17. Sept)
Every day from 4th of September you can go with a mask and snorkel to see artworks underwater of 13 artists. There are different things to explore: a huge mandala, a big cross, sculptures, paintings and much more that you will not expect. The mandala was years ago on the floor of the Paleochora Club.
At a few days from 5 – 7 pm you can hear underwater music (4., 7.,11., 14. and 17. Sept). Bring your own snorkeling glasses to Methexis Beach.
And for all those who don’t want to snorkel, they can see a film of the underwater exhibition in the Town Hall.

Artist at Work
Art Points: different Art Points Time: daytime and in the evening
Different artists will work during the Art Week. You can look over the shoulder of the artists to see how they are working, and you have the possibility to ask whatever you wish to know.
Anita Burkhalter
Art Point: Stony Boulevard Time: 8th and 15th Sept. | 6 pm – 9 pm
Anita Burkhalter will paint with acrylic colors on canvas. The ground is treated with marble powder that produces fissures. The artist is composing her painting around the subject of “crack up”. You want to see her working? Come and talk with her.
Anthony Bijnen
Art Point: Methexis Beach | Art Dome Time: 10 – 12 am, 6 – 7 pm
Our artist Anthony Binjen had built this remarkable Art Dome on Gavdos. He shows his portraits he has made on Gavdos and on places in Brazil, Nepal, Mali among others. If you want he will make a portrait of you in charcoal for 15 euro.
Gerhard Stelzhammer
Art Point: Stony Beach Boulevard Time: afternoon
Once there was an ape out of marmara, one artwork started by a journeyman. But he had to go home. So the ape stood several years in Gerhard’s Sculpture Garden waiting to be finished. Now Gerhard gets an idea and if you want you can look the process what will the result of this great ape.
Hans Mannooh
Art Point: Symbol Art Time: daytime and 8 pm – 11 pm
Hans is a mandala painter. He paints big mandalas or small ones on canvas or makes light mandalas. After his journeys in India and Australia he has developed a unique technique to create mandalas as miniatures. They are painted under the microscope with very thin brushes. See Hans at the Art Point Symbol Art and he will tell you stories about the meanings of his mandalas.
Art Walks
Art Point: Start and end is the Town Hall Time: 2 hours, 7pm
Costs: 10 €, for Kids under 14 3 € Language: English + German or Greek
If you want to know more about the art on display, the artists who have created the artwork, and the Art Points where the art is displayed, you can go around them on one of our guided Art Walks. You will visit 10 – 12 Art Points. Start and registration is at the Town Hall. The walk will end at the same place. If you are interested, look at our timetable and come at 7 pm to the Town Hall.
Art for Kids
With Stefanos Banjeris and Shakti
Art Point: Town Hall Time: 5.9. + 9.9. at 8 pm
The Children are invited to make their own wooden amulets. Therefore they can get ready to cut olivewood slices and sandpaper them until they are smooth and shiny. To complete their work they just pass a string through a hole to put their amulets around their necks. Around that time they can also get a nice face-, hand- or foot painting with special colours.
Painting Workshops for Kids with Efi Fiotaki
Art Point: Town Hall Time: 13.09. at 7 – 9 pm
Efi Fiotaki invites all the children from 3 years and older to become artists, where with techniques of painting and the method of guided creativity.

Creative dance „body & mind“ – open class for adults by Virginia Alizioti
Art Point: Town Hall Time: 11.9. 6 pm
It is a combination of contemporary dance and physical expression. Through this class we will dance creatively under simple guidelines, that will enhance physical and mental expression. This will evolve to a body balanced internally and externally. As it is dance, the body needs to be physically prepared, the soul must be expressed, and finally the mind will resonate.
The youngest band of Palaiochora “Resistants”
Art Point: Town Hall Time: 12.9. 8 pm
The youngest band of Palaiochora makes its appearance and present herself to the public. The „Residence“, as they chose their name composed by four boys aged 12 to 15, make their first presentation to the public.
Butoh | in between | with extempore from Chania
Art Point: Town Hall Time: 17.9. 9 pm
Many things have been said about butoh – one special dance out of Japan: it lays bare the unseen, it touches upon the repressed, the first source of the senses through an intense contrast of light and darkness, it reveals the unconscious dancing on the edge of existence….It may be all the above, but it definitely goes beyond that; butoh is what still resists words and definitions and remains ineffable. Come and get your own idea!
